Palestinian fugitive, Omar Nayef Zayed, was found by his son and embassy staff who immediately called for an ambulance. He died while the medics were treating him. Zayed was accused of murdering a 22 year old student in Jerusalem in 1986 but was able to flee to Bulgaria. He started a new life there, he got married, had three children, and opened his own grocery store. However, he was forced to live in the Palestinian embassy in Bulgaria due to the Israeli threat of capture.
According to Mohammed Khatib, a member of Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, for the past couple of weeks, Zayed was feeling uneasy in the embassy and was worried something could happen to him. However, the Palestinian ambassador, Ahmad al-Madbuh, argues that this is untrue and that Zayed had no reason to feel unprotected in the embassy.
