The long-standing position of U.S. policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was the idea of a two-state solution. This means that Israel and Palestine would have two separate states in order to achieve peace. After a meeting late Tuesday, a white house official stated that “Peace is the goal, whether it comes in the form of a two-state solution, if that’s what the parties want, or something else.” This hints at the idea that the policy may be shifting to a one-state solution or something that the two nations decide on. This U.S. official has made it clear that they should not impose on the decision that Israel and Palestine decide as long as it brings peace. It will be interesting to see how this policy changes after the Trump administration meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
