An Israeli soldier was sentenced to 18 months in prison and a demotion for killing an injured Palestinian. The Palestinian was previously injured and unable to move when Azaria shot and killed him. Palestinians were calling for harsher punishments as the act of killing an incapacitated man is considered a war crime. Israeli elites such as Bibi Netanyahu, called for Azaria to be pardoned. While Azaria was only put away for manslaughter and not a war crime, it is a step towards equality in the courts.
