March of Return

Ever year there is a “March of Return” by Palestinians to remember the events of the Nakba.  This year, the event is supposed to take place in a village in Galilee and over 25,000 people are expected to attend.  However, Israeli police have denied a permit for the organizers claiming there is not enough police force to oversee the event.  This will be the first time that the event has not taken place since it began 20 years ago.  The organizers informed police that over 300 stewards would oversee the march and the police would only be responsible for the roads and alleys.  Jewish communities near the village have expressed their opposition to the march.  Last year the police began imposing strict restrictions and Arabs believe the permit would have been denied no matter what village the march was to occur in. The march has always been a peaceful event.
