I recently found out that Israel, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank are the only places in the world to use Type H outlets.
Normally, outlets are used over a larger territory, and are used by multiple countries.
Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt use C, E, and F outlets (European types), and the Arabian Peninsula uses G outlets (British type).
Type H outlets are only compatible with C plugs and H plugs, and weren’t compatible with C plugs until the late 1980s.
Israel is also a “power island,” which means its power grid isn’t connected to any of its neighboring countries.
I’ve read that potential reasons for this unique outlet type is to prevent power theft by neighboring countries. I definitely suspect that Type H outlets have their roots the in politics and security of Israel, so this is connected to the Arab-Israeli Conflict.
