Netanyahu reverses firing of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant

In this article published by AP News, it is reported that Prime Minister Netanyahu reversed his previous decision to fire Defense Minster Gallant.

Gallant was “fired” over his comments disapproving of Netanyahu’s attempt to overhaul the judicial system.

I put the word fired in scare quotes because, interestingly enough, he was never actually given his letter of termination, which means that he was still on the job. He was recently working with Netanyahu to minimize Israel’s security threats after rising tensions both within the country and with its neighbors which escalated to violence.

Gallant’s “sacking” triggered the nationwide protests which nearly brought Israel to a standstill and rapidly deteriorated Netanyahu’s and the Likud’s public opinion.

It is this tension which prompted Netanyahu to publically declare the reversal of his decision.

This reversal is seen as a win for the opposition since Netanyahu was forced to reverse his highly controversial decision which, to much of the public, was seen as purging his dissenters from the Israeli government.
