It turns out that the explosion in Maysaf was created by the IDF’s crack squad, the Shalddag Unit, repelled down into the base out of Helicopters. They seized materials from the facility, somehow killing 18 Syrians in the process. This incident sticks out from others due to the presence of troops inside another country.
Israel claims this was all to prevent Iran from supplying their Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah. Before the attack, Israel notified several top U.S. generals, including the head of United States Central Command, Michael Kurilla, and there was no resistance shown to the plan.
The target in Masyaf is a well-known missile research facility and it has been the target of many airstrikes over the years. Every time it was hit, it would be quickly rebuilt with no real pause because of the fortified interior rooms in the facility. Reportedly, this raid was to go inside of the fortified interior and seize crucial documents.
