Size of the Armenian Quarter of the Temple Mount

The Armenian quarter of the Temple Mount is the smallest of the four quarters, according to Patricia Golan in her article, “A Cloistered Community.”  After World War I there were about 25,000 Armenians living in Jerusalem but due to political and economic instability, today there are roughly 2,500 Armenians living in their quarter.  One of the factors that drives their seclusion from the other quarters is their ethnicity.  Golan gives the example that the Christian quarter identifies themselves as both Christian and Palestinian while the Armenians identify themselves as Armenians and strive to keep their heritage.
