Hamas Threatens to “Kill an Israeli Military Officer,” if Palestinian Prisoner Dies

On Monday, January 25, 2016, Hamas issued a statement claiming they “vowed… to kill an Israeli military officer,” if Israeli authorities let Mohammad Qeeq, a Palestinian journalist die during his hunger strike.  Qeeq’s hunger strike has lasted over two months and his health has deteriorated greatly.  Qeeq is currently being held by Israel authorities without formal charges.  Israeli authorities have detained Qeeq, without formal charges due as they believe Qeeq was involved in terrorist activity.  The ongoing tensions between Israeli and Palestinian authorities showcase the state of the crisis in Israel-Palestine.  The hostile nature of both sides evidences the inability of these governments to work towards peace agreements or cooperate to ensure human welfare.
