The month of April has been relatively calm for Israel, but today Palestinian siblings, a brother and sister, were shot at a security checkpoint after disobeying orders from police. The sister, 23, threw a knife at a police officer directly in front of her. It was after the attempted stabbing when officers shot the woman and then her brother, who was 16. Later it was discovered that the brother also had knives in his belt. However, there are disputes over what the siblings were actually doing at the checkpoint. While they did ignore directions from police and went to the vehicle checkpoint side rather than the pedestrian, their uncle claims the pair were simply heading to a doctors visit. It was suggested that if real harm was intended, the woman would have gone alone rather than with her brother. This is just another example of the rising tensions within the region and how both sides are subject to violence every single day.
