Gaza’s drinking water

Palestinians in the Gaza strip don’t have easy access to fresh drinking water. Drinking water that comes from municipal pipes is so salty that people say it tastes like it is coming from the sea. People cannot grow gardens or food with the water because it will kill the plants. At the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council last Monday, the Global Institute for Water, Environment and Health and the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said water in Gaza is “undrinkable” and “slowly poisoning” people. This issue has been made worse because of the Israeli blockade and the attacks last May. People say that the water is slowly poising the people in Gaza. 25% of disease in Gaza is linked to water pollution and 12% of child deaths are related to intestinal infections. About half of Gaza’s children suffer from water-related infections.
