In the wake of continuous sexual and domestic violence against women, Arab-Israeli men are taking the first major steps in speaking out against such gender-based violence. Interestingly, a Palestinian rapper has utilized his voice and platform to address this issue. Tamer Nafar, a prominent Palestinian rapper and musician has worked directly with groups aiming to report domestic abuse that impacts children and survivors. Such activism ultimately aims to address the issue of domestic violence that disproportionately impacts women. In 2020, for example, 25 Israeli women were reported to be killed by a partner or “someone close to them”. Studies additionally found that 35% of cases were defined as femicide and 20% were cases in which there had been a filed police report of domestic violence. These statistics and outcry from activists, like Tamer Nafar, exemplify the continuous gender-based violence that is perpetrated in conflicts around the world and within states of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
