The Brigade of the Free Kassamyin has denounced the execution of Mahmoud Rashid Eshtaiwi by the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades for “behavioral and ethical excesses” without further details. Eshtaiwi had been in charge of tunnels in the eastern part of the Gaza Strip. The group argued that Eshtaiwi’s execution was ordered by senior al-Qassam Brigade leaders due to his ties to Hamas leaders outside of Gaza. They have also emphasized that many people who committed more severe crimes were given lesser sentences or even serve in sensitive positions within Hamas’ leadership. They have demanded that the true reasons for Eshtaiwi’s execution be revealed and for the establishment of a neutral investigative committee.
