Explicit censorship of Palestine solidarity work is becoming the new normal on American campuses

SJP is an organization that is on many University campuses. SJP is Students for Justice in Palestine. At Northwestern University, SJP students put fake eviction notices under students doors to show what it is like for Palestinians in Israel on a daily basis. The administration was upset and so the administration  has taken action against the club. The administration has had  Northeastern’s SJP was suspended from campus for “noncompliance with longstanding policies,” including, “vandalism of university property, distribution of flyers in residence halls without prior approval and disrupting the events of other student groups.” Most troubling was the administration’s decision to pursue disciplinary action and a police investigation against two SJP members, both of whom are women of color with Arab and/or Muslim backgrounds.”

The administration claims that every student is held to the same standard of accountability but the SJP club is claiming their first amendment free speech rights are being violated because they are advocating for an issue that is not widely accepted in the USA. On top of it, this article claims other schools have also attacked their SJP groups which is a clear violation of first amendment rights. “Re-education” in retaliation for walkouts (Florida Atlantic University), removal of banners that were in total compliance with administrative standards (Barnard), and criminal prosecution for interrupting a speech (UC Irvine) are but a few examples of repression SJP chapters have recently faced.”
