Late Monday night, smoke was seen in suburbs of southern Beirut, Lebanon – later followed by explosions – as an evacuation notice from the IDF. The IDF warned that “Hezbollah facilities and interests” were located nearby, and attacks would begin soon.
Hours later, it was announced that 4 were pronounced dead outside of Rafik Hariri University Hospital, also located in southern Beirut, following an attack. 1 of the deceased was a child, and another ~20 were injured. The attack also caused serious damage to the hospital itself.
The Israeli military has further expressed the belief that Hezbollah has hidden tunnels and command centers underneath another hospital outside of Beirut, Al-Sahel. Al-Sahel has been evacuated due to Israeli threats multiple times before, and these current threats matched with the attacks on Rafik Hariri have significantly strained Lebanon’s emergency response abilities.
