Israeli security forces were called on to examine the various tactics and “excessive force” used on Palestinians by a UN human rights investigator. There is also concern for Palestinian prisoners being held indefinitely without proper justification. The UN human rights investigator demanded that Israel comply with international law and adequately protect Palestinians. These accusations follow the recent outbreaks of violence over the past few months which have resulted in the 27 Israeli and 157 Palestinian deaths. The recent violence is a reminder of the volatile situation in the occupied Palestinian territory according to the United Nations special Rapporteur. Israel responded to these allegations claiming there is a bias against them. The call to have Israel release detainees under “lengthy administrative detention”, which includes children, is viewed as not consistent with international human rights standards.
