Recent responses to Israeli Prison Break: from applauds to a manhunt

The recent escape of six prisoners from an Israeli prison has caused a pro-Palestinians jihad group to declare their likelihood of “fight[ing] Israeli forces if they enter the Jenin refugee camp in search of six Palestinian prisoners”. This is significant since the escaped prisoners are believed to head toward the Jenin area, a region with weak Palestinian control. Israeli forces however have raided several areas as well. Interestingly, Jenin has also been an area of the recent conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, seeing that this area is not only a part of the disputed West Bank territory but also was the area where several Palestinians were killed in a confrontation between the Israeli army.

Israel’s take on this situation is one of extreme apprehension. Since this prisoner break, there are speculations from Israeli security officials that these prisoners could bring about attacks themselves or their escape could encourage other Palestines to engage in attacks against Israeli forces. Thus, this mere prison break exemplifies the continual conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. The actions of these prisoners both sparked hope among pro-Palestinian groups while fostering worry among Israelis. This overall worry is evident in the sheer power of resources allocated to this prisonbreak response. Specifically, Israel has employed a large-scale manhunt with 200 checkpoints, various means of tracking: police dogs and aircraft, and the Israeli Secret service to gather intelligence on this situation. Ultimately, Israel has taken this recent prison escape with the utmost gravity and severity as a whole.
