The Israeli Military Chief told troops that the airstrikes on Lebanon would continue in order to prepare the way for a “possible” “ground assault”. It is unlikely that a nation would prepare the way for a ground assault if it did not intend to invade.
The Israelis claim that these airstrikes are necessary to disable weapon systems that Hezbollah has paid residents to store in their homes. This echoes a similar claim that circulated during the beginning of the decimation of Gaza, that Hamas was hiding every residential building. This line of reasoning has been used to justify airstriking 24 Hospitals and 560 Schools in Gaza.
