The decision to fire Defense Minister Yoav Gallant came one day after the minister called for delaying the judicial overhaul, saying it has sparked division within the military that is turning into a national security threat. He said the divide is causing a “clear, immediate and tangible threat to the security of the country.”
Israeli security officials have warned the crisis could seriously damage Israel’s military, which relies heavily on the capabilities of its reservists, as tensions rise with regional foes like Iran and with Palestinian militants in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.
